"The Big Apple" is a small family run bake shop
and produce stand atop "Upper Apple Hill." Through
nineteen years, Mike and Rose Stuhlsatz have operated this
home orchard and built a bakeshop with products second to
none. This small bakery has become famous for Rose's
specialties that include; "Grandma's Biscotti,"
"Apple Butter Squares," and "Cheddar Cheese
Crust Apple Pie". She is also noted for excellent apple
butter, herb vinegars, apple chutney, and occasional batches
of green tomato relish and such preserves as her garden
might have in abundance. Old favorites include five pound
crumb top and regular apple pie, Apple Hill cake, apple
strudel, apple raisin, and chocolate chip cookies. Rose has
also introduced ethnic favorites such as Biscotti from her
grandmother's recipe. The handmade biscotti sells in local
gourmet and espresso shops and is wholesaled year round.
Besides growing all the favorite apples, the Big Apple is
perhaps the last of the small gourmet cider producers. Mike
blends at least four varieties for the best marriage of tart
crispness and tang. The varieties and blend ratios are
posted for the cider aficionados.
